Forestry Mulch: A Natural Finish for Northwoods Landscapes

This week's project highlights one of the simplest and most practical improvements we make to Northwoods properties—forestry mulch.

This trail connects the lawn to the shoreline and was finished with a layer of mulch approximately four inches deep. Rather than creating a hard edge, the mulch gradually transitions into the surrounding woods, producing a natural appearance that blends into the landscape.



Forestry mulch helps suppress weed growth, reduces maintenance, retains soil moisture during dry periods, and insulates tree root systems from temperature extremes. As it naturally decomposes, it builds organic matter and improves soil structure over time.

We maintain an abundant supply of mulch generated from our tree work and frequently incorporate it into trail projects, woodland landscapes, and the transition areas between maintained lawns and the forest. It's a simple finishing touch that provides immediate benefits while continuing to improve the property for years to come.
